Congratulations to Carroll Hospital Center for being ranked #1 in Overall Hospital Care in the State of Maryland by CareChex¹!
The most surprising aspect of the CareChex report to me was the high ranking of smaller, rural hospitals versus the larger, more “prestigious” ones. For example, the top 3 hospitals in the report were Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, MD; St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD; and Union Hospital of Cecil County in Elkton, MD.
Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore ranked a distant 21st and The University of Maryland Medical Center ranked 40th (out of 45).
Certainly, there may be reasons to go to Johns Hopkins or The University of Maryland – a rare condition requiring intensive care may be one of those reasons – but increasingly, the quality of care being consistently delivered by smaller, rural hospitals can’t be beat by the larger, “big city” hospitals.
Congratulations John Sernulka and team – you make all of Carroll County proud!
